The Derby County Community Trust have today revealed details for the Derby 10K 2020, which is the charity’s biggest fundraiser and Derby’s biggest race.
It will take place on Sunday 29th March 2020 at 9am, followed by the Derby 3K Fun Run at 10:30am.
Last year’s race raised in excess of £30,000 for the Community Trust, seeing 4,805 runners take on the main race and another 838 participants in the 3K Fun Run, seeing a total of 5,643 take part across whole event.
This was the race’s busiest year to date, and the title was won by Alex Pilcher in 31:32, who claimed first place for his fourth time in the 10K’s history. The female victory went to Lisa Palmer-Blount, who also chalked up her fourth course victory in a time of 36:29.
The course starts and finishes at Derby County's Pride Park Stadium, taking in a circular route of the city passing landmarks including the Guildhall and Derby Cathedral. The mainly flat course takes place on fully-closed roads and is UKA licensed event.
Funds raised from the race go directly into supporting the breadth of Derby County Community Trust programmes, which range from disability coaching to rehabilitation programmes for those overcoming substance misuse or recovering from long-term illnesses.
There are a number of ways to get involved in the race, from taking part as an individual runner, as part of a Jog Derbyshire or Business Team, or taking advantage of the family group rate in the fun run.
As part of its wider offer, the Trust’s fully qualified personal trainers are developing a 10K Tone Up programme for the first time this year, which will take place from 6pm every Tuesday from 15th October 2019 for £3 per session or as part of the Everybody Active membership.
It is designed to go hand-in-hand with the running plan developed for the race by UKA Coach Andy Brooks, which is available to all 10K runners.
Emma Pilgrim, Events Manager at the Derby County Community Trust, said: “The Derby 10K is the highlight of our events calendar and it is brilliant to see the whole city get behind the race every year.
“We’re working towards increasing last year’s numbers to ensure that as many runners as possible, whether new to racing or seasoned pros, get the opportunity to take part and the new programmes we are putting in place from October this year are designed to give more people the confidence and stamina to go the distance.”
Entries are now live on derby10k.co.uk with limited early bird spaces.
Race prices are £23 for UKA runners, £25 for individuals, £28 for Business Team runners, up to teams of 10, and £210 for Jog Derbyshire groups of 10. Derby 3K entries are £5 per runner, or £15 for a Family Ticket for four.
