Derby County Under-18s make the trip to Reading on Saturday as they look to kick off their Premier League Cup campaign with a victory.

Like the Rams, the Royals have started their league campaign in varied fashion. Reading sit 8th in Premier League South and have won one of their six matches thus far, drawing two and losing three.

The Royals’ only triumph came on 14th September when they defeated Swansea City 3-1. Their most recent match ended in a 2-1 loss against Chelsea.

Justin Walker’s Derby, like their opponents, come into the game off the back of a tightly contested defeat. An 83rd minute Patrick Jarrett finish ensured they were beaten 1-0 by Stoke City last weekend.

Prior to their loss at the hands of the Potters, the Rams earned back-to-back victories over Middlesbrough and Manchester United.

Last season, Derby reached the Premier League Cup semi-finals only to be beaten late in extra time by opponents Middlesbrough. The winning goal came in the 119th minute to ensure a highly disappointed end to the competition for Walker’s under-18s.

The Rams will be hoping to go all the way and win the competition this season as they look to better last campaigns performance.
