Derby County Ladies star Sophie Domingo has joined an exclusive club after winning a sponsorship deal with sports brand Umbro that will see her treated as a professional and receiving Umbro branded kit as part of the prize.

To celebrate the company’s 95th anniversary, Umbro underwent a global search for amateur players aged 18-24, offering a one-year sponsorship deal to the winners as part of their Diamond FC campaign.

The competition also paid homage to Umbro being the first brand to contract a professional player back in the late 1950s.

With winners being selected from countries around the world, striker Domingo was one of only four from the UK, beating off competition from thousands of players.

She explained: “I’m really excited to have won this deal and I am looking forward to representing Umbro over the next year and wearing their boots and kit and increasing their brand awareness.

“The competition was tough as there were so many outstanding footballers on competition day and we had to showcase what we could do on the pitch and thankfully I won one of the deals and I am so looking forward to wearing these new boots.

“I’ve had a good start to the season with Derby County Ladies and scored a few goals because confidence has been high and I am enjoying my football. This deal with Umbro will give me even more confidence as we head into the rest of the season and hopefully I can add more goals over the rest of the season.”

Umbro has long been associated with football in the UK, and based in Manchester, the British brand are the tecnhincal kit supplier for both Derby County and Derby County Ladies.

Derby County's Director of Corporate Communications and Chairman of Derby County Ladies, Nick Britten, believes that Domingo’s competition win can further help the partnership grow between the two businesses.

He said: “It’s fantastic for Sophie and fantastic for the Club for her to be able to showcase her skills on a national platform and to win such a prestigious award. She had to fight off stiff competition from both male and female players and absolutely deserves the sponsorship deal.

“Everyone at Derby County Ladies is proud of her and the award highlights the strength of talent we have here.”
