Phillip Cocu says Derby County need to show they are maturing as a side as they aim to record back-to-back wins in the Sky Bet Championship for the first time this season.

Derby rounded off 2019 with a 2-1 home victory against Charlton Athletic on Monday evening with youngster Jason Knight netting both goals under the Pride Park Stadium floodlights.

Cocu’s side are back in action on home turf on Thursday night when they take on in-form Barnsley in their first fixture of 2020 (7:45pm kick-off).

The 49-year-old says picking up back-to-back wins is a short-term target as they aim to extend their unbeaten in the Sky Bet Championship to three matches.

Cocu told RamsTV: “It is another short-term target for us, to get back-to-back wins.

“We also to show we are maturing during the season and developing as we cannot have too many ups and downs.”

He added: “If we can show consistency and get back-to-back wins that would be a great start to the year.”

Derby have picked up six wins and five draws from their 13 home games in the Championship this season, claiming 23 points in total at Pride Park this term.
