Derby County’s Under-23s came from a goal behind to defeat Wolverhampton Wanderers Under-23s 3-1 at the Sir Jack Haywood Training Ground on Tuesday afternoon to ensure their progress in the Premier League Cup as Group H winners.
Both sides had already secured progression to the next stage of the competition prior to kick-off, but were competing to secure top spot in the group with a draw working in Derby’s favour thanks to a greater goal difference over the hosts.
Derby progress to the knockout stages having won four of the six fixtures, scoring 18 goals in the process.
Taylor Perry gave Wolves a lead going into the break after his decisive touch found its way into the back of the Derby net.
Derby almost equalised in the opening five minutes of the second half, but Josh Shonibare couldn’t convert Jahmal Hector-Ingram’s cross from close range.
Hector-Ingram continued his fine goal scoring form for the Under-23s as he levelled from the spot just before the hour mark, with Shonibare atoning for his earlier miss by giving the Rams the lead shortly after.
George Evans’ free-kick wasn’t properly gathered by Joe Young in the Wolves goal, and Shonibare capitalised on the rebound to put Derby ahead.
Midfielder Louie Sibley added a third in the 81st minute to secure the three points - and top spot.
