Striker Martyn Waghorn believes a sustained period of positive results will put Derby County in a good place in the Sky Bet Championship table - and he says the Rams must capitalise on the positive result and performance against Swansea City as they face another long trip to Bristol City on Wednesday night.

The striker netted in the opening goal in the Rams’ 3-2 victory over Swansea which saw Derby secure their first three points on the road since the opening day victory against Huddersfield Town.

Despite the Rams falling 2-1 behind in South Wales, goals from Duane Holmes and Tom Lawrence ensured Derby came away with all three points which sets them up nicely for Wednesday’s trip to Ashton Gate.

Derby have only lost one of their last 11 games in all competitions and are one of the form sides in the Championship and Waghorn knows how important it is to capitalise on the strong showing at the Liberty Stadium.

“If you put two or three wins together then you gain points in this league,” he told RamsTV. “Nobody wants to win it and take initiative in the division so we need to be slightly optimistic and take it game by game.

“We need to look above us and sneak into it because it’s there for the taking. The way that we are playing at the minute; it’s positive stuff.

“We know it’s only one win and we just need to build on it and work hard again. Bristol City is going to be a tough game but if we go there and get a positive result then we will see where it takes us.

“We know the games come thick and fast this month and we know what’s ahead of us. It’s tough, it’s a relentless league but it’s up to us as professionals and as a team to work hard, get ready and prepare for the next game.”
