Midfielder Max Bird has been crowned as the Derby County Players’ Player of the Season for the 2019/20 campaign.

The award, presented by club partner Officecare, has been given to the 19-year-old midfielder following a voting poll conducted by the Rams’ first-team players.

Bird enjoyed a fine campaign in the middle of the park and recorded 27 appearances in all competitions.

The accolade is even more impressive for Bird considering he did not make his first league appearance of the campaign, following two early season Carabao Cup outings, when he came off the bench in the side’s 1-1 draw at Wigan Athletic on Boxing Day.

Since then, however, the Academy graduate has not looked back and established himself as a key member of Phillip Cocu’s side with several assured and impressive performances.

The 19-year-old central midfielder cemented his place in the side early in the New Year alongside newly appointed skipper Wayne Rooney following his arrival from DC United.

Bird, who has come right through the Derby youth system and onto the first-team scene, has had his performances and progression through the season recognised by his team-mates.
