Derby County’s George Evans has put pen-to-paper on a one-year contract extension.

The midfielder, who can also perform in central defence, is now contracted with the Rams until the summer of 2022.

Evans, who is 25, joined Derby ahead of the 2018/19 season from fellow Sky Bet Championship side Reading and is approaching his third season at Pride Park Stadium.

Over the course of the last two seasons, Evans has made 34 appearances in all competitions in a Derby shirt.

Injury restricted him to 14 appearances in the 2018/19 campaign, while he featured 20 times in the 2019/20 season.

Although he has mainly been utilised in the holding midfield position during his time with the Rams, he has also provided another option at the heart of the backline under Phillip Cocu.

Evans was utilised in central defence on several occasions in the 2019/20 season, particularly after the resumption of the season behind-closed-doors in June.

In particular, he impressed in the 1-0 victory over Preston North End at the start of July and helped assist Chris Martin’s last-gasp equaliser in the 1-1 draw against Nottingham Forest a few days later.

The former England youth international, who started his professional career at Manchester City after progressing through their youth system, has made 164 appearances in club football to date.
