Derby County have completed the signings of experienced duo Phil Jagielka and Sam Baldock.

The pair, who spent the vast majority of pre-season training with Wayne Rooney’s squad, have signed short-term contracts which will run until January 2022.

Both Jagielka and Baldock, as free agents, featured in a number of Derby’s pre-season friendly fixtures ahead of the start of the 2021/22 season in July.

Former England international centre-back Jagielka, who is 39 today, brings a wealth of experience at the very highest level of the game to the squad. He began his career at Sheffield United in the early 2000s prior to joining Everton in 2007 and he racked up almost 400 appearances for the Toffees before returning to the Blades in 2019. He has also been capped on 40 occasions for England, scoring three times.

Striker Baldock, 32, began his career at MK Dons and has also represented West Ham United, Bristol City, Brighton & Hove Albion and Reading in his career to date and has over 400 appearances to his name in club football, as well as in excess of 100 goals. The frontman played a key role in Brighton’s promotion to the Premier League in 2016/17, while he was also League One’s Golden Boot winner with 24 goals at Bristol City in 2013/14.

After putting pen-to-paper on Tuesday morning the pair could feature in Derby’s matchday squad for Wednesday evening’s Sky Bet Championship fixture at Hull City (7:45pm kick-off).
