Wayne Rooney says new signing Ravel Morrison will add ‘a lot of quality’ to Derby County’s squad.

The attacking midfielder joined the Rams on a one-year contract on Saturday afternoon, following an impressive spell training with the squad during pre-season.

The 28-year-old became the fourth player to join the club inside 24 hours following the signings of Curtis Davies, Richard Stearman and Ryan Allsop on Friday.

Morrison, who has been capped by Jamacia at international level on three occasions, is a player with undoubted ability and has shown flashes of his talent during his career to date.

Rooney is determined to get the best out of the former Manchester United youngster, who has played in Italy, Mexico, Sweden and Holland as well as in the Premier League and Championship.

The Derby played alongside Morrison during their time together at Old Trafford and he is fully aware of what he can bring to the side on the pitch.

“It is something we have been trying to get done, unfortunately we couldn’t get it done in time for Saturday,” Rooney told RamsTV.

“I am delighted to have him in, he is a very good player.

“He will add a lot of quality into this team and I look forward to working with him.”

Morrison could make his Derby debut in Tuesday night’s Carabao Cup Round One tie against Salford City (7:45pm kick-off), subject to receiving international clearance.
