Derby County captain Tom Lawrence has been nominated for the Sky Bet Championship Player of the Month award for November.


It’s the second November award which the Rams’ captain has been nominated for this week as he was also shortlisted for the PFA Vertu Motors Player of the Month.

The nominations are testament to the influence Lawrence had on the side during November as he pitched in with three goals and two assists as Derby once again moved back into positive points after being deducted a further nine points for admitting to breaching profitability and sustainability rules.

The 2017 signing from Leicester City registered two assists in as many games at the start of the month as he set up Sam Baldock to score against Barnsley, whilst a couple of days later, he laid the ball into the path of Festy Ebosele to open his professional account for the club in the 1-1 draw against Millwall.


Lawrence continued his fine form after the international break as he scored twice in a thrilling 3-2 victory over high-flying AFC Bournemouth at Pride Park Stadium. His first was a superb curling effort from inside the box whilst his second, which turned out to be the match-winner, came from the penalty spot.

Three days later, he was denied on a number of occasions as Wayne Rooney’s side earned a point in a 0-0 draw against league leaders Fulham at Craven Cottage, whilst he ended the month with another goal.

He latched on to an excellent through ball from midfielder Graeme Shinnie and finished emphatically into the top corner to put the Rams ahead against Queens Park Rangers, however, they were unable to hang on to all three points as two second half goals for the visitors turned the game on its head.


But, on a personal level, it proved to be a good month for Lawrence who has been nominated for the award alongside Queens Park Rangers forward Chris Willock, AFC Bournemouth winger Jaidon Anthony and Hull City midfielder George Honeyman.

The judging panel for the Sky Bet Player of the Month comprises Sky Sports’ EFL expert Don Goodman; EFL Communications Director Mark Rowan and Sky Bet EFL trader Ivor Davies.

All winners will be announced on Friday 10th December 2021.
