Derby County’s Ravel Morrison was unable to help Jamacia keep their 2022 FIFA World Cup dream alive in the early hours of Thursday morning.

Attacking midfielder Morrison was named in the starting line-up as Jamaica tasted a 1-0 defeat against Costa Rica at Independence Park in Kingston.

The only goal of the match came from Joel Campbell of Monterrey after 62 minutes, moments after Celso Borges had failed to convert a penalty for the visitors.

Morrison, who played 70 minutes before being replaced, had a free kick saved by Keylor Navas in the first half to deny him his first international goal.

The result means Jamaica, with one win from 11 matches, cannot reach the World Cup Finals in Qatar later this year.

They have three qualifiers left to play, against El Salvador, Canada and Honduras, in March, as they look to round off their CONCACAF Third Round campaign in a positive manner and avoid finishing bottom of the group table.

Morrison, who now has nine caps for Jamaica at senior level and started their last three World Cup qualifiers over the course of this week, has made 23 appearances for Derby this season, scoring one goal, after signing as a free agent in August.
