Defender Haydon Roberts says is delighted to join Derby County on a season-long loan deal from Brighton & Hove Albion and is looking forward to the campaign ahead.

The 20-year-old, who becomes Derby’s seventh signing of the summer, has linked back up with his former youth coach Liam Rosenior after joining the Rams for their Sky Bet League One campaign this season.

Speaking to RamsTV, Roberts expressed his delight at joining the club and gave a flavour of what fans can expect to see from him this year.

On Joining Derby…

I’m buzzing to be here. I’m looking forward to getting started, putting on the white shirt and playing in front of the supporters. I can’t wait to get started. Derby is a massive club and the history and the fanbase was really appealing to me. It’s a great opportunity to take that next step in my career. I want to help Derby County finish as high as we can, earn promotion and then for me individually, be the best I can be and help the club.

On His First Training Session Today…

It was good. You can already see the quality in this team and I can’t wait to get into the games and play.

On Interim Manager Liam Rosenior…

Liam was my coach when I was in the Under-23s at Brighton. I had a good relationship with him and he helped me a lot. I learned a lot of things from him at 16 so me being 20 now, I think I can still learn from him and take that next step in my career. We have been in contact from afar. I have played against Derby in the FA Youth Cup and I remember seeing him in the tunnel and giving him a big hug. I don’t know if he remembers that but I also bumped into him in London as well. I loved working with Liam and I can’t wait to get started again.

On His Style Of Play…

I’m someone who will never give up. I will always give a hundred per cent for 90 minutes. I am athletic and I am someone who wants to win; that’s the main thing.
