Derby County return to Carabao Cup action on Tuesday night when they host Championship side West Bromwich Albion in Round Two of the competition at Pride Park Stadium (7:45pm kick-off).

In the lead-up to the game getting underway, dcfc.co.uk has brought together all the key information you need to know…

Team News

Interim Manager Liam Rosenior is expected to shuffle his pack to spread match minutes across the squad so players like Louie Sibley, Liam Thompson, Korey Smith and David McGoldrick could start against the Baggies after being on the bench for the 0-0 draw at Fleetwood Town on Saturday.

Captain Curtis Davies remains out of action after injuring his quad muscle in training last week. The 37-year-old centre-back has missed the side's last three matches as a result and is working with Derby's medical team in order to return to fitness.

Central defender James Chester is making good progress after missing all of Derby's matches so far this season due to an achilles problem. The defender featured twice during pre-season following his arrival from Stoke City in July but is yet to make a competitive appearance.

Goalkeeper Joseph Anang, who joined the club from West Ham United on a season-long loan deal last week, picked up an arm injury in training last Thursday and is set to miss the next six weeks as a result.

Coaching Staff Views

Jason Pearcey, who holds the position of Head Goalkeeping Coach on the coaching staff, sat down with RamsTV on Monday afternoon to look ahead to the Carabao Cup tie with the Baggies and to also discuss the three new additions to the goalkeeping department this summer.

He said: "Everyone was frustrated with the Fleetwood result, drawing 0-0 up there. But we’d rather be having the chances we created than nothing at all. We’ve got a lot of experienced heads in the dressing room and they know exactly what we’ve got to do. We’re not panicking.

"There are lads in the group that haven’t been getting many minutes so they will be involved against West Brom on Tuesday and looking to get their fitness up and stake their claim for a place. We’re taking the Carabao Cup matches very seriously."

From The Dressing Room

Attacking midfielder Louie Sibley spoke to RamsTV after training on Monday to preview the cup clash with the Baggies as Derby look to make it to Round Three of the Carabao Cup for the first time since the 2018/19 campaign.

He said: "It should be a good test for us and whatever side the manager picks, they’ll give their all. We beat Mansfield two weeks ago, which was a good tie to be fair, so we’d like to keep our run going in the Cup. We played against West Bromwich Albion last year in the Championship and we know they’re a team with quality. When we played at Mansfield a few lads that hadn’t started the first two league games featured and had a point to prove, so whenever you’re selected it is a chance to show what you can do."

About The Opposition

West Bromwich Albion will head to Pride Park Stadium on Tuesday night buoyed by their first league win of the 2022/23 Championship season on Saturday.

Steve Bruce’s side had drawn three and lost one of their four league outings prior to turning on the style and hammering Hull City 5-2 at the Hawthorns to register their first three points of the new season and end the Tigers’ own unbeaten start to the campaign.

After taking charge towards the back end of last season, Bruce made changes to his squad over the course of the summer following a disappointing 2021/22 season that saw the Baggies fail to mount what many expected to be a strong promotion challenge. Given the squad turnover, it is perhaps understandable to expect it will take time for Albion to hit their stride.

Some impressive free agents were added in the former of midfielder John Swift from Reading and winger Jed Wallace from Millwall, while midfielder Jayson Molumby was signed for an undisclosed fee from Brighton & Hove Albion. In addition, Turkish midfielder Okay Yokuslu signed on a permanent basis after impressing during a loan spell in the 2020/21 campaign in the Premier League.

There were 13 departures on a permanent basis during the close season, while a further six have since left on loan, with Bruce now operating with a more streamlined group this term.

Albion set up their Round Two tie against the Rams following a 1-0 home victory over Sheffield United two weeks ago, courtesy of a second-half strike from Karlan Grant. The former Huddersfield Town frontman has scored three goals in six appearances this season and is strongly expected to be leading the way in front of goal for Bruce’s side.

Derby will be hoping for a similar outcome to the last time Albion visited Pride Park in the 2021/22 campaign as they claimed a welcome 1-0 victory over the 2021 Christmas period, courtesy of a well-taken second half goal from Colin Kazim-Richards.

Carabao Cup Match Format

All Carabao Cup Round One-Round Five matches shall be of 90 minutes’ duration and in the event of the scores being level at the end of 90 minutes, no extra time shall be played and the winners shall be determined by penalty kicks in the traditional ABAB format.

Carabao Cup Substitute Rules

In the Carabao Cup, each club is permitted to name up to nine substitutes on their team sheet, of whom not more than five may take part in the cup tie.

Each club is only permitted a maximum of three opportunities to make substitutions during the game, although clubs may make substitutions at half time and any that are made will not count towards the maximum of three opportunities.

Match Officials

Robert Madley has been appointed as the Match Referee for Tuesday evening's cup tie.

He oversaw 40 games in the 2021/22 season, showing 134 yellow cards and six red cards, and has stepped up to the Championship for the 2022/23 campaign.

Madley will be assisted by Ian Cooper and Jonathan Hunt on the lines, whilst Darren Bond has been appointed as the fourth official.
