Derby County are back in Sky Bet League One action on Saturday afternoon when they host Barnsley at Pride Park Stadium (3pm kick-off).

In the lead-up to the game getting underway, dcfc.co.uk has brought together all the key information you need to know…

Team News

Summer signing David McGoldrick is set to feature in Derby’s matchday squad for the first time since signing from Sheffield United as a free agent in July. The experienced striker has missed the Rams’ opening games of the campaign with a minor hamstring issue and he has been cautiously eased back into training to avoid a recurrence.

James Chester, also a new face in the squad, is still out with an achilles issue. The central defender has also sat out the side’s opening three matches of the 2022/23 season in all competitions but is not too far away from returning to the fold.

Liam Rosenior shuffled his pack for the 2-1 Carabao Cup Round One victory at Mansfield Town in midweek and players such as Louie Sibley and Lewis Dobbin impressed when offered their opportunity to shine from the off and they are pushing to be named in the starting line-up.

Manager Views

Interim Manager Liam Rosenior caught up with RamsTV in the lead-up to Saturday's game and he's eager for his side to make it two wins from two on home turf following the 1-0 home win over Oxford United on the opening day of the season at the end of July,

He said: "Michael Duff has done great since going in over the summer at Barnsley. I met Michael on pro-license courses and he is really good young coach. He did a fantastic job with Cheltenham Town. Barnsley won away at Middlesbrough in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday, which is a great result for them, so it’s not going to be an easy game at all. They are very well organised, play five at the back and play out from the back at times but can mix it up and go in behind you as well. It’s about us playing our way and dominating in our way. I can’t wait to be back in front of our home fans again who were outstanding in the last game against Oxford United on the opening day of the season."

From The Dressing Room

Defender Eiran Cashin also caught up with RamsTV ahead of Saturday's League One fixture to offer his verdict on Derby's start to the 2022/23 season.

He said: "Obviously it was a good win against Oxford and we were unlucky against Charlton. It was a good victory against Mansfield Town in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday, so there are a lot of positives to take from the start we’ve made. There are a lot of things we can get better at, as well. You can see that there is a process that we’re going through and when it works, it works. The goals against Mansfield came from playing in our structure and trusting the process so there are a lot of positives to take. I’m looking forward to the game on Saturday now."

About The Opposition

Barnsley, like Derby, were relegated from the Championship in the 2021/22 season and are back in the third tier of English football - and if history is anything to go by they'll be part of the promotion race.

The Reds are, also like Derby, under new management after Michael Duff took charge at Oakwell in the summer following a successful spell in the hotseat at Cheltenham Town.

Barnsley’s squad has a fresh new look too with as many as eight new signings through the door as they look to mount an immediate promotion push, while key players such as Cauley Woodrow, Carlton Morris and Callum Brittian have remained in the Championship after sealing moves away.

Their most eye-catching addition during the close season was striker James Norwood from Ipswich Town. He netted 28 goals in 88 appearances for the Tractor Boys in League One over the last three seasons, which came off the back of a 32-haul for Tranmere Rovers in League Two in 2018/19.

Another player who is like a new signing is former Rams winger Luke Thomas, who is back with Barnsley after spending the 2021/22 campaign with Bristol Rovers as they secured promotion from League Two.

Barnsley’s 2022/23 season began with a 1-0 reverse at Plymouth Argyle on the opening day, but they bounced back to claim a 1-0 success over Cheltenham at Oakwell last weekend courtesy of a well-taken goal by Thomas against his old club.

Derby will be looking for a repeat result of the last time the Reds visited Pride Park Stadium, in March of this year, as two superb Ravel Morrison goals handed the Rams a 2-0 win.

Match Officials

Peter Wright has been appointed as the Match Referee for Saturday's game.

Wright oversaw 34 games in the 2021/22 season and produced a total of 106 yellow cards and four reds.

He will be assisted by Steven Plange and Stephen Brown on the lines, whilst Blake Antrobus has been appointed as the fourth official.

Matchday Programme

The Ram is back for its second edition of the 2022/23 season on Saturday.

And what better way to savour the spine-tingling atmosphere once again than with a treasured copy of ‘The Ram’ in hand?

The club has teamed up with Ignition Publications to bring the programme back for the first time since the 2019/20 season and there is no more fitting accompaniment to a matchday than The Ram, which is packed with exclusive interviews, content, statistics and insight.

The A5-size 52-page perfect-bound editions will be available to purchase around the ground for £3, but you can also reserve every league edition from the campaign via a seasonal subscription with Ignition Publications, with details available below.

The second edition of the season features an exclusive interview with new goalkeeper Joe Wildsmith, who discusses his move from Sheffield Wednesday in the summer and the new lease of life his move to Pride Park Stadium has provided him.

This weekend's edition of The Ram includes:

* Joe Wildsmith exclusive interview
* Interim Manager Liam Rosenior's latest column
* Captain's verdict from Curtis Davies
* The latest look at some of the most memorable moments in the first 25 years of Pride Park Stadium

Order Your Copy Of The Ram

You can pre-order your copy of The Ram, or subscribe for the season, from the club’s official publishing partners Ignition Sports Media by visiting ignitionsportsmedia.com/products/derby-county-full-season-subscription-2022-23.

The package covers all 23 of Derby’s home League One fixtures, starting this weekend, but subscribers will only pay for 22 editions meaning this is the cheapest way of staying up to date with your beloved club if you can’t make every game.

The treasured issues will be produced to a schedule that allows for a first-class mail out on the Friday before a weekend fixture, with midweek editions despatched on the day of the game, but this is not a pre-event delivery service.

The price to reserve this collection of memorabilia is £115, including post and packaging, or you can spread the cost by signing up to a half-season subscription for £64 until 2023 for the first 12 games.

Subscriptions do not include any additional domestic cup or play-off matches, which must be purchased separately.

* Please note that this subscription is not for supporters Overseas, but an Overseas Bundle is available for all editions for 2022/23 which will be despatched by international tracked courier on two occasions during the season.
