Derby County midfielder Darren Robinson has been named in the Northern Ireland Under-19 squad for their upcoming UEFA Under-19 European Championship qualifiers.

Northern Ireland’s young guns have three qualifiers to play over a busy seven-day period and all matches will take place in the Netherlands.

First up is a meeting with Slovenia on Wednesday 21st September, before taking on host nation the Netherlands on Saturday 24th September. Their final qualifier will see them face Moldova on Tuesday 27th September.

There are 13 groups in the qualifying round of the 2022-23 UEFA European Under-19 Championship.

The top two teams in each group will join top seeds Portugal in the elite round next spring along with the third-placed team with the best record against the top two in their section. Hosts Malta qualify directly for the final tournament, which is due to be staged from 3rd to 16th July next year.

Robinson will link up with the Northern Ireland camp on Sunday 18th September and will return to the Rams’ squad on Wednesday 28th September.

The 17-year-old made his senior debut off the bench towards the end of the 2021/22 campaign to round off an impressive year which saw him named as the Rams’ Academy Player of the Season.

Robinson has made one first team outings so far this term, coming off the bench in the 3-1 Papa Johns Trophy victory over Grimsby Town last month.
