Derby County will take on Premier League side Liverpool at Anfield in Round Three of the 2022/23 Carabao Cup on Wednesday evening (8pm kick-off).

In the lead-up to the game getting underway, dcfc.co.uk has brought together all the key information you need to know…

Team News

Skipper Curtis Davies (knee) remains out but has had successful surgery and continues to recover well. It is hoped he will be able to return to the fold in the coming weeks, should his rehabilitation remain on track.

Defender James Chester (calf) and goalkeeper Joseph Anang (arm) both remain absentees and will be unavailable for the trip to Anfield.

Midfielder Jason Knight is back in contention after making a swift recovery from the knee and ankle injury he suffered against Manchester City Under-21s in the Papa Johns Trophy last but wideman Tom Barkhuizen (hamstring) remains out.

Defender Eiran Cashin was handed a straight red card in the 2-2 draw with Torquay United in the Emirates FA Cup on Sunday, however, the club have since successfully appealed the decision and the youngster will now be available for selection for the game.

Warne’s Words

Head Coach Paul Warne spoke to RamsTV ahead of the cup clash on Merseyside.

He said: "When we get any opportunities to hurt Liverpool, we have to take them. To get any result against one of the best teams in Europe, everything has to go right for you. When you have the opportunities for a counter-attack, you have to make the best decisions.

"There will be times in the game where we have to ride our luck but I just hope the lads put on a performance that they can enjoy, their families can enjoy, the fans can enjoy and they can look back on with fond memories."

From The Dressing Room

Versatile midfielder Korey Smith sat down with RamsTV to discuss Wednesday’s match.

He said: "It’s a dream to play in these stadiums and play one of the best teams in the world. I’ve had tough times and injuries in my career so I know how special every moment like this can be. Hopefully we can go there, put on a good performance and you never know what can happen."

Match Officials

Tony Harrington will take charge of Wednesday’s cup tie and will be assisted by Marc Perry and Shaun Hudson.

David Webb will be on fourth official duties.

Harrington has been the man in the middle for 10 fixtures so far this season with six of those coming in the Premier League. He’s distributed 38 yellow cards in that time, zero red cards and awarded three penalties.

Ticket Information

Derby were handed a total allocation of 5,667 tickets for the match at Anfield and these completely sold out last month.

Those fans without a ticket are advised not to make the journey to Liverpool, as they will be unable to gain access to the stadium.

Carabao Cup Format

The tournament is played over seven rounds, with single-leg ties throughout, except for the semi-finals which is played over two legs.

Should any Round Three ties end in a draw after 90 minutes there will be no extra-time and the game will instead go straight to a penalty shoot-out.

VAR will not be in use and only comes into action from the semi-final stage onwards.

Carabao Cup Substitute Rules

In the Carabao Cup, each club is permitted to name up to nine substitutes on their team sheet, of whom not more than five may take part in the cup tie.

Each club is only permitted a maximum of three opportunities to make substitutions during the game, although clubs may make substitutions at half time and any that are made will not count towards the maximum of three opportunities.
