Post-Match Verdict: Joe Wildsmith Vs Sheffield Wednesday (H)

Derby County goalkeeper Joe Wildsmith was delighted to get another clean-sheet to his name after the 0-0 draw with his former club Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday afternoon.

The Rams shot-stopper had little to do thanks to a solid defensive display in front of him but did have to be at his best to deny Fisayo Dele-Bashiru midway through the second-half.

Speaking to RamsTV after final whistle at Pride Park Stadium, Wildsmith reflected on what he believes, overall, was a good point for the Rams.

On the result...

It's always nice to get a clean-sheet in any game as a goalkeeper and for me with all the added things going on today it was a really nice touch for me personally, but I thought the team defended great and were very deserving of that clean-sheet.

On the defensive performance...

We've looked really solid for a few weeks now. It's the seventh clean-sheet under the new gaffer so we're definitely doing something right in terms of the defence side of things.

We've been scoring a few goals as well but were unfortunate in that aspect today. We know though that if we don't win the game, we certainly don't lose and that's been the mentality.

On the confidence in the squad...

It's great when Eiran Cashin and Foz are chucking themselves in front of shots and heading crosses away - it makes my job a lot easier and then it's just for me to stay concentrated and be ready to make a save if called upon.

On facing his boyhood club...

It was a bit surreal really because I was there for so long until last summer, I've never really known anything but that club and to see some familiar faces was nice but obviously then it was down to business and get the job done on the pitch.

At the end of the day it's just another game. They are my old club but I'm playing for Derby County now and my focus on was helping us get the three points.

Final thoughts...

We knew we could go fifth if we won and in a way we did feel it was two points dropped. It's disappointing we didn't get that real clear-cut chance because we definitely had play at times that deserved a lot more.

We'll carry on though, it was a good team performance and we'll take positive and confidence from that into the Burton Albion game next week.
