Derby County's Lewis Dobbin scored his first-ever league goal as the Rams beat Cambridge United 1-0 on Friday evening.

The on-loan from Everton forward headed home the only goal of the game midway through the second-half and ensured Paul Warne's men moved up to fifth in Sky Bet League One going into 2023.

Speaking to RamsTV after the match, the teenager reflected on what was a memorable night on a personal basis as he netted his first goal in league football and the third of his professional career so far.

On his performance...

I'm very happy with it. It's been a tough couple of months in front of goal for me but I've finally got my first league goal now and I can take the positives from tonight and hopefully keep pushing.

On his first league goal being a header...

We've got a running joke in the team saying I don't head the ball enough so that's why I ran over to the coaches when I scored. It's funny now because when they say anything I've got something to go back at them with!

On the celebration...

The coaches always believe in me - they keep pushing me to be a better player so I've got a lot to thank them for. It was a good moment for me so hopefully I can keep moving forward and they can keep believing in me.

On the win...

It was a tough game, they created chances and made it a physical battle but we're unbeaten in 14 now so we've got to take the positives in that and keep getting better and better as a team.

On the unbeaten run...

The team is full of confidence to be fair. We're getting better and we're just a little bit away from being really good and a team that everyone fears so we can keep going. It's like a family in the dressing room at the minute and I think that's showing on the pitch.

On Accrington Stanley next up on Monday...

I expect a similar game, I expect a battle but we can go into the match with our heads held high and full of confidence. With us being at home and our crowd, we can play our game a bit more instead of it being more of a scrap.
