Post-Match Verdict: Eiran Cashin Vs Wycombe Wanderers (A)

Eiran Cashin says Derby County ‘must move on quickly’ from their defeat to Wycombe Wanderers that saw their 15-match unbeaten run in Sky Bet League One come to an end.

The Chairboys ran out 3-2 winners after Lewis Wing’s second-half brace gave the Rams too much work to do after James Collins’ leveller had cancelled out Sam Vokes’ opener, with Lewis Dobbin’s curling effort proving nothing more than a consolation in Buckinghamshire.

That meant Derby tasted defeat in a league game for the first time since their October visit to Ipswich Town, when they went down 1-0 at Portman Road.

It’s a quick turnaround for the Rams, who battled until the end at Adams Park, as they host Lincoln City at Pride Park Stadium on Tuesday evening (7:45pm kick-off) and defender Cashin says the side need to put this setback behind them and bounce back as they look to close the gap to the automatic promotion places in League One.

After that, Charlton Athletic head to Derby on Saturday 18th February (3pm kick-off) so there’s no time to dwell on the loss to Wycombe, as Cashin explained when he spoke to RamsTV.

On the unbeaten run ending…

We’re disappointed that the run has come to an end. We’ve been playing well and it was a tough place to come to today. We knew they’d be physical, that they would be a handful up top and how they would play, but I think on the whole we matched it. There were just a few times we switched off or made a slight error and they punished us. But, as the gaffer has said to us, we need to pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off and go again. We’re disappointed but, as soon as we get back on the coach, we need to park this result and get ready for the next few games. We don’t have time to sulk, we have a chase to go on and a run to make. Everyone’s disappointed but by Tuesday we’ll be ready. We need to make sure we win the next two games.

On the fighting spirit shown…

The positive we can take is that we didn’t give up. If we’d packed it in and gone under then there would be questions asked, but we didn’t do that. We were knocking on the door and had chances throughout the game, even in the final moments we could have got back and earned a draw. It wasn’t to be but we’re looking forward to putting it right. We go again now; that’s what good teams do. We know we’re not going to win every game, but if we’re going to get promotion we need a reaction from the lads. We’ll make sure we have one.

On the travelling fans…

They were quality, even when we were losing. They stuck behind us and that really pushed us on. We thank them for that and it was nice to have them there but unfortunately we weren’t able to get anything out of the game.

On returning to Pride Park Stadium against Lincoln and Charlton…

Pride Park has such a good vibe and hopefully that will help us put another run back together. We’ll be looking for six points from the next two matches. The coaches will have done their research on Lincoln already and we’ll be ready for that game.
