Derby County midfielder Liam Thompson is eager to impress during his loan spell with National League side Scunthorpe United.

The 20-year-old joined the Iron on loan until the end of the National League campaign on Tuesday morning and is looking to grab the opportunity with both hands during his short spell away from Pride Park Stadium.

He has made 24 appearances in all competitions this term, scoring once, and is confident he will benefit from getting minutes under his belt at Glanford Park.

“I want to get some minutes under my belt, get games in and get some experience so I’m looking forward to it," Thompson told Scunthorpe's website.

The Academy graduate, who has made 49 senior appearances after making his professional bow in November 2021, has found game time hard to come by in recent weeks but is still really grateful of how his season has gone to date in Derbyshire under Paul Warne.

“It’s been really good,” he explained.

“This season, I haven’t really got as many minutes as I’d wish for but that’s football sometimes.”

Thompson will have the opportunity to make his debut for Scunthorpe United when they take on high-flying Notts County at Meadow Lane on Saturday (3pm kick-off).
