Derby County striker David McGoldrick says there's still 'great belief' in the dressing room that the team can achieve something this season.

The Rams' 1-1 draw with MK Dons on Bank Holiday Monday left the side sitting seventh in Sky Bet League One, level on points with Bolton Wanderers in sixth although the Trotters do have a game in hand.

Whilst the result was a frustrating one, McGoldrick, who scored the Rams' goal against the Dons, claims belief is still very much there among the players and coaching staff heading into the final five games of the 2022/23 season.

He spoke to RamsTV after the final whistle to give his verdict.

On the performance...

It was pretty similar to the last few weeks, we've been good in the first half and not as good in the second half.

We should have scored a few more goals and been two or three up but that's been a theme for the last few home games.

On needing a second goal...

We just needed the second goal to calm the nerves. We knew that in the second half they were going to come out a bit more but it's just the story of how it's going at the moment.

On the mood in the dressing room...

It's down. Performance wise it was alright, we created plenty of chances but points matter at this stage of the season. You automatically look at the games around you but it's going to go down to the wire. We've got five games left, two at home, and we've got to take advantage of that.

On the final few games...

The top eight teams are all good sides. There were a few surprise results at the top today but it's going to be like that until the end of the season. We need to concentrate on ourselves and if we win every game from now I'm sure we'll be fine.

On closing in on the 20 league goal mark...

I haven't even thought about goals today. I could have nicked it at the end with the header. It's good to get goals but I've not even thought about that yet.

On the belief in the squad...

There's no thinking it's over or anything like that. We know what we're capable of. We had a dip in form and we're coming out of it it now we just need to be more clinical.

It's in our hands. If we win the games, we'll be in there. There's total belief in the players, the boss and the coaching staff that we can do it.
