Derby County midfielder Korey Smith says everyone in the team are fully aware they have to be better following Tuesday evening's 2-0 Carabao Cup defeat to Blackpool.

A first half brace from Jake Beesley was enough to ensure it was The Seasiders that progressed into Round Two of the competition and Smith says the first half in particular wasn't good enough from the Rams.

Speaking to RamsTV after the match, the midfielder gave his verdict on the performance.

On the game...

I'm hugely disappointed to be honest.

We weren't good enough, we gave away easy goals and once you do that teams get confidence.

We need to be more solid as a team. Hopefully we are getting the mistakes in early and we can learn from it and move forward.

On the first half...

We made too many mistakes. Nobody means to make them but when you do it gives the other team confidence.

I don't think we were good enough reacting to their goals. There was a positive reaction in the second half and we were a lot more on the front foot which is a lot more like us. On another day maybe we could have nicked one.

On the improvement in the second half...

There were some strong words at half-time. We're not happy with the result or the first half performance.

That first half today we didn't deserve to be winning. The boys that came on did really well and made a difference.

The talk between all of us made a bit of a difference and made us a bit more aggressive. We know we've got to be better and that's what we'll look to do.

On it being a learning curve...

We can't expect to turn up and just win games.

There's good players and good teams all over the place. We need a reaction from it.

We are really disappointed. We're as hard on ourselves as anyone. We've got to react and start putting some performances together.
