Martyn Waghorn says he is 'delighted' to be back for a second spell with Derby County.
The 33-year-old spent three years with Derby between 2018 and 2021 and now has put pen-to-paper on a one-year deal as he returns for a second stint after leaving Coventry City earlier this summer.
Speaking to RamsTV after sealing the move, Waghorn spoke of his delight at being back in Derbyshire after recently training with Head Coach Paul Warne's squad.
On returning to Derby County...
I'm delighted to be back to be honest. It's been a strange couple of weeks being in and around the place but I'm over the moon to get it over the line and I'm ready to get going now.
On why he's come back...
The vision of the club and where we need to be and where we all want to be. Obviously I've got great history with the place but the chance of being successful here appeals. I'm a different player now, a different person and hopefully I can use all my experience to help the team to get back to where we want to be. There's no greater incentive then being in front of these fans and my family week in and week out.
On the last couple of weeks...
I've loved every minute. Since the invitation came around it was a no brainer and to be in and around the place again to get the feel and the excitement that is being generated by the boss is something I really wanted to be a part of.
On how he's changed from his previous stint...
I'm a lot more experienced. I'm more of a well-rounded player and someone that has gained a lot of knowledge of how to play certain situations and understand the game a little bit better. I'm still hungry as ever, still want to win, still want to achieve and still want to score goals and give 100% for the team.
On Paul Warne...
He's been brilliant, a complete contrast to what I've been used to in the past. Where I'm at in my career, I'm really looking forward to having that relationship and hopefully we can use each others experiences and get the best out of each other. In terms of a manager, to have the relationship he has with players is quite different but the lads love it and it's something I can really get on board with.
On the expectation at Derby...
The group has got more than enough, you can see the quality back-to-front, it's there for everyone to see. It's just about the finer details which we'll get going, it's only one week out of the way.
It's a long season, everyone knows what the expectations are and this is why I've come back to try and help in whatever capacity I can. It's about getting the team back to where it needs to be.
On a first season in Sky Bet League One for him...
I'm looking forward to it, it's a different challenge. This is where I think my experience can come into play. Different circumstances, different situations and different grounds - I've experienced a few different ones in Scotland too.
You play the situation, you play the game and everything around it is just a bit of noise. You've got to trust the experience, trust what you do and trust the process. There's enough quality in the dressing room to get the job done.
