Derby County will make the short trip to Nottingham to take on Sky Bet League Two pacesetters Notts County in their latest EFL Trophy tie on Tuesday evening (7pm kick-off).

In the lead-up to the Northern Section - Group G tie getting underway, dcfc.co.uk has brought together all the key information you need to know...

Rams Team News

Striker Conor Washington (Northern Ireland), winger Nathaniel Mendez-Laing (Guatemala) and midfielder Darren Robinson (Northern Ireland Under-21s) will not be involved as they are away on international duty.

Defender Callum Elder continues to be out of action after undergoing hernia surgery last month. He is expected to return to action following the international break and is making good progress in his rehabilitation work.

Right-sider Joe Ward (heel) returned to the grass last week after almost two months out of action and is hopeful of a return to the squad following the international break.

On-loan Arsenal striker Tyreece John-Jules (quad) was also back doing work on the grass last week and is edging closer to his comeback after missing out for the last month.

Midfielder Liam Thompson (quad) is progressing well on the road to recovery after just over a month on the sidelines but won't make a return to training until after the international break.

Defender Jake Rooney (knee) has undergone surgery on his damaged ACL and is set to be out of action for a lengthy period of time.

On loan Sunderland midfielder Elliot Embleton has returned to his parent club after injuring his quad in training last month and, after undergoing surgery, is to be out of action for several months.

Pre-Match Thoughts

Assistant Head Coach Richie Barker spoke to RamsTV on Monday to preview the short trip to Meadow Lane.

He said: "There's plenty riding on this game because there's minutes up for grabs, the chance to get into the next round and, as we know from two years ago at Rotherham, an opportunity to win a trophy at Wembley."

Defender Ryan Nyambe also spoke to RamsTV ahead of the EFL Trophy clash.

He said: "You want to be successful. If we win on Tuesday night then it's another little boost for us and some of the lads that haven't been playing as much lately. It can be a boost for everyone in the team. It's a long season and we'll need everyone fit and ready to go."

Match Officials

Christopher Pollard will be the man in the middle for Tuesday evening's clash at Meadow Lane.

Steve Durnall and Andrew Ellis will assist him whilst Oliver Mackey is on Fourth Official duties for the match.

Tuesday evening will mark the seventh game of the season for Pollard. Up to now, he's distributed 35 yellow cards, awarded one penalty and is yet to send a player off in 2023/24.

EFL Trophy Format

If the scores are level at the end of 90 minutes then each club is awarded one point. In addition, the match will be followed by a penalty shoot-out and the club that wins on spot-kicks will be awarded an additional one point.

EFL Trophy Substitute Rules

In the EFL Trophy, each club is permitted to name up to seven substitutes on their team sheet, of whom not more than five may take part in the cup tie.

Each club is only permitted a maximum of three opportunities to make substitutions during the game, although clubs may make substitutions at half time and any that are made will not count towards the maximum of three opportunities.
