Derby County’s Under-21s picked up their first victory of the 2023/24 Premier League 2 season with a stunning 4-2 success against Manchester City.

Striker Dajaune Brown scored twice while Jaydan Davidson and Tony Weston were on target at Matlock Town’s Causeway Lane home to secure all three points for Jake Buxton’s side.

Brown put Derby in front after 14 minutes with a glancing header, but Justin Oboavwoduo equalised shortly afterwards to restore parity with a low drive.

Buxton’s side went in at the break 2-1 ahead after Brown netted his second of the game shortly before half-time with another headed effort.

Emilio Lawrence levelled matters five minutes into the second half from close range before Derby kicked on to claim all three points.

Davidson, who came off the bench on the hour, put Derby in front for a third time with 20 minutes left to play with a fine low finish after drifting inside from the left wing.

Fellow substitute Weston rounded off the scoring in the final minute to ensure the Rams picked up all three points with a cool finish after hitting City on the counter-attack.

Next up for Jake Buxton’s side is a trip north to face Middlesbrough at the Riverside Stadium in Premier League 2 on Sunday 5th November (1pm kick-off).
