Derby County return to Sky Bet League One action on Saturday when they take on last season's beaten Play-Off finalists Barnsley at Pride Park Stadium (3pm kick-off).

The Rams and the Tykes played out three competitive games in the 2022/23 campaign and with just three points separating the two going into this one, this isn't expected to be any different.

In the lead-up to the game getting underway, dcfc.co.uk has brought together all the key information you need to know...

Rams Team News

Striker Martyn Waghorn (hamstring) is a doubt after missing the side's last three matches in all competitions.

Midfielder Liam Thompson (quad) is progressing well in his recovery after two months out of action but is not yet back in training.

On-loan Arsenal striker Tyreece John-Jules (quad) is back running on the grass but is not yet back in full training.

Defender Jake Rooney (knee) has undergone surgery on his damaged ACL and will be out of action for a lengthy period of time.

On-loan Sunderland midfielder Elliot Embleton has returned to his parent club after injuring his quad in training in September and, after undergoing surgery, is to be out of action for several months.

Pre-Match Thoughts

Head Coach Paul Warne spoke to RamsTV to preview the return to League One action this weekend.

He said: "I've seen Barnsley play twice live this year and in fairness to them, they are the perennial promotion or play-off team every season they are in League One.

"Anyone that wants to be successful in League One has to look at their model and their way of collecting points."

Goalkeeper Joe Wildsmith also spoke to RamsTV ahead of Saturday's match.

He said: "It's almost a six-pointer because we are trying to catch up with them and we can use the three points to close the gap.

"Every game is important in League One because any team can pick points up against any in this division. The same importance goes into this one and we'll work hard to get ready for Saturday."

Match Officials

John Busby will officiate Saturday's game and will be assisted by Robert Merchant and Mark Pottage. Jacob Miles is on Fourth Official duties.

Busby has refereed 10 games so far this season, nine of which have been Championship fixtures.

He's distributed 53 yellow cards, zero straight reds and awarded two penalties to date.

Annual Remembrance Game

Saturday's match has been selected as the club’s annual Remembrance fixture.

The match is Derby’s closest home match in advance of Remembrance Sunday, which this year falls on 12th November, while the game itself falls on Armistice Day.

Ahead of kick-off on Saturday, those in attendance will be asked to observe the playing of the Last Post while wreaths will also be laid on the Pride Park pitch in the lead-up to the match getting underway by club officials.

Earlier in the day, a small service will be held by Club Chaplain Tony Luke at 11am at the War Memorial Plaque outside the Lionel Pickering Entrance and supporters are welcome to attend if they wish. This will include a two-minute silence to show respect and gratitude to the armed forces past and present who have lost their lives fighting for their country.

A collection will also be staged both outside and inside the ground should supporters wish to make a donation to the Royal British Legion.

All of Derby’s players will wear poppy armbands for the fixture, as well as members of the coaching staff.

The annual Remembrance Fixture is one of the key dates in the club’s calendar and in 2014 the specially commissioned War Memorial Plaque was erected next to the Lionel Pickering Entrance at Pride Park Stadium.

The Plaque bears the names of six former players of the club who sadly died in the First World War, whilst also remembering the many others with Derby County connections who answered the call to serve King and Country in two World Wars.

As part of the Remembrance activities in 2018, trees were planted at the club’s Moor Farm Training Centre to serve as living legacies to the hundreds of footballers who served and fell in the First World War.

We Will Remember Them.
