Derby County’s upcoming Sky Bet League One clash Reading has been selected as the club’s dedicated Her Game Too fixture.
To celebrate International Women’s Day today (Friday 8th March), the club will stage various activities at meeting with the Royals at Pride Park Stadium on Tuesday 12th March (7:45pm kick-off).
Derby’s players will wear Her Game Too branded t-shirts in the pre-match warm-up, while Women’s first team players Hannah Ward and Becky McGrother will be in attendance to take part in some photograph opportunities ahead of kick-off.
McGrother will be joining the RamsTV team in the studio for the match to provide her insight and analysis on the Rams’ midweek clash under the floodlights.
Support Derby and #HerGameToo and fight against sexism in football!
Simran Atwal, who is Her Game Too’s ambassador for Derby County, said: “Her Game Too was founded in 2021 by a group of passionate female football fans with an aim to tackle sexism in football. We strongly believe that football is a game for all. Women and girls should be able to watch, play, talk about, and work in football without discrimination or barriers to success due to their gender. The campaign aims to support female fans, players, and staff at all times, with many different collaborations, including with professional clubs, pubs, local grassroots teams, and even podcasts.
“Derby County working with the campaign and hosting a dedicated fixture to celebrate International Women’s Day and champion our female fans is fantastic to see. It is so important to see our club promote the campaign and help ensure that female fans feel seen and supported. Raising awareness for the efforts that are put in by the entirely voluntary team is crucial to ensure that women and girls feel represented and have a voice in a sport that has typically been predominantly male.
“As a Derby County fan myself, it is so heartwarming to see the club get involved and spread the message that everyone belongs in the world of football, and all are welcome at our fantastic club!”
What is Her Game Too?
Her Game Too was founded by 12 passionate female football fans in May 2021 with a special launch video uploaded to social media. Since then, the campaign has only continued to grow.
The individuals involved with Her Game Too are helping to build a more welcoming environment for young girls and females at stadiums, championing women who play football, work in football and support football, whilst also continuing to campaign against the online abuse women suffer and sexism attached to the game, to ensure women are respected equally and can feel safe doing something they love.
With the support of the club, the non-profit organisation is aiming to create further awareness, carry out research, educate the next generation, offer support for reporting systems in place at clubs, develop a strong sense of community and create strong relationships with other relevant partners, among much more.
