Derby County defender Matt Clarke has signed a new three-year contract with the club.

The 28-year-old has agreed a deal that will keep him at Pride Park Stadium until the summer of 2028.

Clarke arrived from Middlesbrough in January for his third spell as a Derby player, on an initial deal until the end of the 2024/25 campaign, and played a vital role as John Eustace’s side secured their Sky Bet Championship status of the final day of the season.

The centre-back played every single minute of the Rams’ final 10 league games, a sequence that included a 2-0 win over promotion-chasing Coventry City in which he scored the opening goal.

He played 16 times in total and formed a formidable back-three alongside fellow winter arrival Sondre Langås and Liverpool loanee Nat Phillips.

Clarke – the club’s 2019/20 Jack Stamps Player of the Season – is now approaching 100 appearances in black and white, following his previous spell at Pride Park on loan from Brighton and Hove Albion between 2019 and 2021.

He has made almost 400 career appearances and Clarke’s continued presence in the squad brings significant Championship experience, following his time with the Rams, West Bromwich Albion and Middlesbrough.
