NEW SIGNING INTERVIEW: Agyemang Relishing ‘Amazing Project’ With Derby

United States international striker Patrick Agyemang admitted his excitement after joining an ‘amazing project’ at Derby County.

The 24-year-old has signed for the Rams on a four-year deal, joining from Major League Soccer side Charlotte FC for an undisclosed fee.

His 10 goals and three assists for Charlotte saw them reach the MLS Play-Offs in the 2024 season, and he continued his goalscoring form into the 2025 campaign with a further six league goals to his name in the first months of the campaign.

He attracted the eye of USMNT manager Mauricio Pochettino, and he was selected for their recent CONCACAF Gold Cup squad, where Agyemang reached the final with his national side against Mexico as a regular in the side.

He has joined up as Derby’s fifth signing of the summer window and will look to bring further firepower into Head Coach John Eustace’s squad.

Agyemang sat down with RamsTV at Moor Farm after completing the move to Derby.

On joining Derby County…

It's exciting. I have been hearing good things about the club and the fans as well. I always wanted to be a part of something special. To finally be here, it's amazing.

I've heard about [the move] once I was getting into the national team for the Gold Cup. In the moment, you're like: “That's something I’m interested in!” However, you want to focus on what you're doing.

As it starts to progress, you start to look more into it. I knew this was a project I'd love to be a part of. I just hoped for it to get across the line. Happily, it did.

On why Derby was a perfect location…

I always wanted to take that next step into being in a position to help myself better my career. Going into the Championship and being around such passionate fans and a good group of guys is something I'm excited for.

On his time with Charlotte FC…

I loved it. Initially, I was drafted from College. I came in and they welcomed me really well.

When I started, I was taking my time in the journey and playing with the second team and then I was pushed up to the first team. When I got there, I tried to be like a sponge, taking on all the information from the coaches. I started to just excel and excel.

In my second and third years, I started to do well and just enjoy my game. Then a new manager came in and he welcomed me. He accepted me as a player, and he just wanted me to improve and push myself.

On playing for the USMNT in the Gold Cup…

It was very big for me. Obviously, we wanted to win it. To represent my country and to fight for the nation was a great feeling. It was difficult. I've never been in a tournament like that, and you see how intense it can be. I just want to continue being in positions like that to be able to help the team. It was a great feeling.

On being ready for the Championship…

I'm expecting it to be very tough. Definitely hard-working, and you're playing a lot of games. I know it's going to be trying at times, but it's all about how you deal with it. For me, I usually like to take those big next steps. There's going to be adjustment periods, but I know once I get through that, I should be fine.

On the fan reaction ahead of the move…

It has been crazy because I never experienced it to that degree in such a small period before. When the news first broke, I got on my phone and saw a flood of Ram emojis!

I was just laughing, looking through it. It shows how passionate they are because they're, like, really excited for me to come here.
