TRANSFER NEWS: Introducing… Owen Beck

Owen Beck has checked in at Pride Park Stadium as Derby County’s sixth signing of the summer.

The left-back – who is well known to Head Coach John Eustace following his spell at Blackburn Rovers last season – has arrived on a season-long loan from Liverpool.

This is his story so far…

Owen Beck In Profile

Born in Wrexham, Beck was a part of the Academy set-up at Tranmere Rovers and Stoke City before joining Liverpool at Under-13 level.

He progressed through the ranks to sign his first professional contract in the summer of 2020, with his professional debut coming against Preston North End in the Carabao Cup at the start of the 2021/22 campaign.

The defender briefly joined Portuguese side Famalicão on loan ahead of the following season, but he would go on the spend the first half of 2022/23 in Sky Bet League One with Bolton Wanderers.

He made nine appearances in all competitions, before enjoying more senior experience in Scotland with Dundee.

Beck impressed during the early stages of the 2023/24 season, as he became a key player and scored his first professional goal against Hibernian in the Scottish Premiership.

His form and potential meant that Liverpool saw fit to recall the young defender as Jürgen Klopp’s side suffered an injury crisis, and he made his Premier League bow against Bournemouth in January 2024.

He was allowed to rejoin Dundee later in the window and he ended the campaign with 28 appearances, two goals and four assists in all competitions and a place in the PFA Scotland Premiership Team of the Year.

The 22-year-old attracted Championship attention and Blackburn made their move in August 2024, with Beck landing at Ewood Park on loan for the season.

He played 24 times for Rovers, with his first goal in English football coming in a 2-0 win over Luton Town.

By joining Derby, Beck has now followed in the footsteps of several talents to make loan moves from Anfield, including Andre Wisdom, Jordon Ibe, Harry Wilson and Nat Phillips.

At international level, Beck has represented Wales Under-21s, while he also received a call-up for the senior squad in October 2023.
