Defender Matt Clarke hailed a ‘point to build on’ after Derby County set the foundations for the 2025/26 season with a 1-1 draw against Bristol City.

Derby went behind after Scott Twine’s first-half strike at Pride Park Stadium, but Carlton Morris’ goal in the dying minutes clinched a valuable first Sky Bet Championship point for Derby.
Clarke spoke with RamsTV to assess a hard-fought draw on what was his 100th appearance for the club.
I thought we started well, and there were lots of positives within it. To go a goal down was disappointing, but I thought we stuck at it. We've gone ahead in games and come away with nothing. To get the first point on the board is a start and something to build on.

It was important. As much as people like watching those games (with multiple goals for both teams), they're not a good sign for the players. You don't build momentum or foundations on that sort of performance. After what I suppose was a bit of a reality check, we showed today that if we're in a game with only one goal in it, you can keep pushing and you always get a chance.

As a team, it doesn't get much worse than losing consecutive games - it eats away at you, it hurts you. A draw stops that; it's a point on the board. We want to be in a better position and put in better performances. In a long season, we're getting stronger.
