TRANSFER NEWS: Introducing… Bobby Clark

Bobby Clark has landed to become Derby County’s ninth signing of the summer.

The 20-year-old joins John Eustace’s Men’s First Team squad on loan from Red Bull Salzburg to provide added depth in midfield.

Clark’s journey began with Birmingham City’s Academy, when his father Lee was Manager of the club, before moving on to Newcastle United.

He spent the majority of his youth career with the St James’ Park club, but his potential attracted interest from Liverpool and he made the move to Merseyside in August 2021.

The midfielder signed his first professional contract in 2022 and he was a regular for the Reds’ Under-18s throughout 2021/22, scoring 13 goals in 23 league appearances.

He stepped up to senior level ahead of the following season and made his Premier League bow as a substitute against Bournemouth in August 2022, before making his full professional debut against Derby in the Carabao Cup in November.

Clark was a regular in Premier League 2 during the remainder of the 2022/23 season and his displays ensured an increased role at senior level for the next campaign.

He played 12 times in all competitions, the highlight of which was his substitute appearance in the 2024 Carabao Cup final at Wembley.

Jürgen Klopp called upon several youngsters from the bench throughout the showpiece occasion and Clark made his arrival in the 72nd minute, going on to help Liverpool to see off Chelsea after extra time.

Just over two weeks later, he scored the first goal of his career against Sparta Prague in the UEFA Europa League Round of 16.

RB Salzburg appointed Klopp’s long-term assistant Pepijn Lijnders as Head Coach in the summer of 2024 and he moved to sign Clark ahead of the 2024/25 season.

Lijnders departed in December but Clark remained a regular throughout, making 25 appearances in all competitions, including six in the UEFA Champions League.

At international level, Clark has represented England at several age group levels, including Under-19 and Under-20.
