CLUB NEWS: Jake Buxton appointed as Alfreton Town Manager

Derby County's Jake Buxton has been appointed as the new Manager of local non-league side Alfreton Town.

Alfreton ply their trade in National League North and Buxton has taken up the position at the Impact Arena with immediate effect after an agreement was reached between all parties.

Buxton, who is 40, was appointed as the club’s Senior Transition Coach earlier this year, having held a few coaching positions in the Academy with the Under-21s and Under-18s in recent seasons.

The former Derby defender worked extensively with the First Team during the latter stages of the 2024/25 campaign under John Eustace and his new role provided the remit of concentrating on individual player development with First Team players and also high-potential Academy players who are making the transition into the senior environment.

Buxton will continue his work at Moor Farm on a part-time basis for two days per week whilst the club undertakes the process of appointing a replacement.

Buxton enjoyed seven years with Derby during his playing career after arriving from Burton Albion in the summer of 2009 and established himself as a fans’ favourite.

He made 159 appearances for the Rams and scored on 13 occasions, including a memorable late winner at home to local rivals Nottingham Forest in March 2012.

The popular central defender was also a key part of the Derby side that reached the 2014 Play-Off Final.

Buxton, who began his career at Mansfield Town, recorded just over 500 professional appearances in his career, scoring on 20 occasions.

After hanging up his boots in 2020, Buxton had a brief spell in charge of Burton.
