MATCH PREVIEW: Sheffield United (A)

Derby County will travel to Sheffield United on Saturday for their 13th game of the 2025/26 Sky Bet Championship campaign (3pm kick-off).

John Eustace’s side will travel to South Yorkshire buoyed by back-to-back wins in the league at Pride Park Stadium last week.

The Rams won 1-0 against both Norwich City and Queens Park Rangers on home turf, with David Ozoh’s goal under the floodlights and Carlton Morris’ fifth strike of the season last Saturday getting six points on the board.

Derby will be looking to carry this momentum to Bramall Lane in front of a sold out away end on Saturday.

Ticket Information

Derby will be backed by a full away end at Bramall Lane on Saturday. The Rams were handed an allocation of 2,793 tickets for the match, and these have completely sold out.

Those fans without a ticket are advised not to make the trip to the Steel City, as they will be unable to gain access to the stadium.

The Opponents

Sheffield United have experienced a challenging opening to the 2025/26 campaign.

Last season concluded with Chris Wilder's Blades picking up a 90-point haul in the Sky Bet Championship, a total that had earned teams automatic promotion in three of the previous five seasons.

But United were 10 points behind champions Leeds United and runners-up Burnley, so had to settle for a spot in the play-offs.

They got to the play-off final and saw their season end in heart-breaking fashion, when Tom Watson’s goal deep into added time saw Sunderland ascend to the Premier League as 2-1 winners under the Wembley arch.

In the close season, the Blades opted for a change in manager, mutually agreeing to terminate Wilder’s contract in June, with Rubén Sellés taking the hot seat after leaving Hull City.

But Sellés' reign was short-lived as he oversaw five defeats from the Blades’ opening five games.

After the faulty start, Wilder, who had engineered promotion to the Premier League in his first spell in charge of the club, was brought back for his third stint at Bramall Lane.

From 12 games played, United have three wins and nine losses so far this season, seeing them sit in 22nd place.

The Sheffield club come into the weekend’s meeting with the Rams off the back of a 3-2 defeat on the road against Preston North End last Friday, managed by former Blades boss Paul Heckingbottom.

Club Links

Rhian Brewster joined Derby from United in the summer as a free agent. The forward spent five seasons with the Blades after joining from Liverpool in October 2020 for a significant fee.

Brewster racked up 119 appearances in Sheffield and featured in every game as they reached the play-off final last term.

Following the conclusion of his contract in the Steel City, the former-Liverpool man linked up with John Eustace’s Derby squad and has made seven outings so far, and netted his first goal for the club in August’s 2-2 draw with Ipswich Town at Portman Road.

Fellow attacker and Chile international Ben Brereton Díaz moved to Sheffield United on loan from Villarreal in January 2024, to experience the Premier League for the first time, and he impressed with six goals in his 16 appearances for the Blades.

A permanent move to the top-flight with Southampton followed for Brereton Díaz, before he returned to Bramall Lane on another loan deal for the second half of the 2024/25 season, when he scored four times as they reached the Championship play-off final.

So far this season, out on loan with Derby from the Saints, he has made seven appearances for the Rams and netted his first goal for the club on the road with a spectacular strike against Wrexham at the end of September.

He has so far held the whistle six times in all competitions this term, having also officiated in the Premier League and Carabao Cup as well as the second tier, handing out 11 yellow cards and no red cards in total.

Marc Perry and Natalie Aspinall will be the assistant referees, while Edward Duckworth will take on the fourth official role.
