INTERNATIONAL CALL-UP: Young goalkeeper Thompson gets England Under-20 call-up

Derby County Academy goalkeeper Jack Thompson has landed a call-up to the England Under-20 squad.

Thompson, who is 18, has been added to Ben Futcher’s Young Lions squad for their single fixture during the November international window.

England will face Japan at Doncaster Rovers’ Eco-Power Stadium on Friday 14th November (7:30pm kick-off).

Thompson is currently on loan at National League side Braintree Town, where he has made four appearances.

The 18-year-old stopper has already gained senior experience during a loan spell with Southern League Premier Division Central side Worcester City earlier this term, and stints with Kettering Town and Alfreton Town last season.

Academy graduate Thompson has made four appearances for the Under-21s this season, alongside a single outing for the B Team.

He has been on Derby's books since the age of eight and put pen-to-paper on his first professional contract with the club in December 2023, while he received his first England Under-18s call-up in early 2024.

Thompson is the fifth Academy played to be away on international duty with out on loan pair Daniel Cox and Darren Robinson away with Wales Under-21s and Northern Ireland Under-21s respectively, as well as Cruz Allen with Wales Under-19s and Alfie Friars with Northern Ireland Under-19s.
