INTERVIEW: Brewster Believes Best Is Yet To Come

Derby County’s Rhian Brewster says his best is still to come this season as he targets a prolonged run in the side during the second half of the campaign.

The striker has helped the Rams to five points from the available nine since his return from injury earlier this month, starting the Rams’ previous two Sky Bet Championship contests - a 3-0 victory away at Sheffield Wednesday and last weekend’s 1-1 draw at home to Portsmouth.

Arriving from Sheffield United on a two-year-deal in the summer, Brewster opened his goalscoring account on his first league start for Derby against Ipswich Town at Portman Road in August, and - after overcoming two separate injury niggles since - is confident further strikes are just around the corner.

Ahead of Boxing Day’s clash at Birmingham City (12:30pm kick-off), the 25-year-old sat down with RamsTV, talking of his desire to ‘kick on’ individually and collectively as the Rams prepare to enter the second half of the season.

On Relishing The Christmas Period

It’s a special time of the year, but still a time for focus. We’ll enjoy spending time with our families, but we still have to prepare for games across Christmas and get ready for Boxing Day.

On His Start To Life At Pride Park

It’s been a bit up and down. I hadn’t trained a lot coming in, so it was about getting back to fitness, and then once I did, I played a few games and scored [at Ipswich], but had a little setback in the first international break.

I came back and got another knock but now I’m fit, I'm looking forward to continuing and pushing on.

On Having More To Offer

There is definitely a lot more to come from me. Hopefully some more goals and more assists, and just more involvements on the pitch. I can't wait to kick on in the second half of the season.

On The Rams’ Season So Far

I feel like, considering the way it went last year for the boys, we're in a really good space. I know everybody is still a bit disappointed with outcomes of certain games, even though we have done so well, but we always want more.

We feel like that we've dropped some points here and there, but I feel like all we can do now is focus on the second half of the season and keep pushing to get as many points as possible.
