ACADEMY NEWS: Wheeldon Extends South Shields Stint

Derby County Academy striker Lennon Wheeldon has extended his loan stay with South Shields by a further month.

The 19-year-old has made 14 appearances since he arrived in South Tyneside at the start of November, helping the Mariners to the summit of the National League North table after 25 matches.

Wheeldon – an England Under-19 international – debuted for South Shields during a 4-2 victory over Fylde, scoring his first goals for the club in a 6-2 home win against Dunston UTS in the Isuzu FA Trophy 10 days later.

He opened his National League North account in December, notching the opener against Darlington in a 2-1 victory on the road.

Wheeldon will next have the chance to feature for Ian Watson’s side on Saturday 17 January, when they host Leamington.
