Introducing the Active Recovery XI to mark World Cancer
Day 2026.
World Cancer Day is held every year on the 4th February and aims to raise worldwide awareness, encourage prevention and improve education around the signs and symptoms of cancer.
To mark the national day, Derby County Community Trust and Derby County are proud to introduce the Active Recovery XI.
The line-up consists of participants from the Trust’s Active Recovery programme. Active Recovery, in partnership with University Hospitals Derby and Burton (UHDB), supports people recovering from or living with cancer to regain fitness, strength and confidence.
Cancer treatments can have a significant impact on the body, and weekly sessions delivered as part of the programme target key areas affected by this and support in other areas such as healthy eating and fatigue.
Each member of the Active Recovery XI has their own individual experience with cancer; some are currently going through treatment, some are now in remission, and some sadly have a terminal diagnosis. Their strength, resilience and dedication is admirable.
At the Ipswich Town fixture, these participants will proudly walk out alongside your Derby County starting XI.

Macmillan Cancer Support was named Derby County’s official charity partner at the start of the 2025/26 season. Macmillan refers patients into the Active Recovery programme and also offers ongoing support to participants on the programme throughout their journey via the information centre at UHDB.

Derby County’s Chief Executive Officer, Stephen Pearce, said: “We are delighted to confirm Macmillan Cancer Support as our designated charity partner for the 2025/26 and 2026/27 seasons.
Derby County Community Trust have worked closely with Macmillan as part of their programmes on offer to those who have been unfortunately impacted by cancer, so the ability to support the national charity, and therefore the work we also deliver locally, is an ideal fit.
“We are looking forward to helping raise funds and also awareness of the incredible job Macmillan does over the next two seasons”
This year, the Trust are also supporting the local campaign ‘See you at your Smear’, which is a targeted campaign to encourage women across Derby to book and attend one of several pop-up cervical screening clinics across the next few months, in a bid to increase cervical cancer prevention across the city.
