SQUAD UPDATE: Szmodics Discharged From Hospital Following Head Injury

Sam Szmodics has been safely discharged from hospital and will now undertake a short period of rest following a nasty fall during the Republic of Ireland’s World Cup qualifier against Czechia.

The Rams’ forward was transferred to hospital in Prague for further medical attention after being stretchered off the field with a head injury on Thursday evening, six minutes after coming on as a substitute during extra-time.

Following examination and a period of observation, Szmodics has been discharged and will now return to the UK, where he will continue his recovery under the care of the Derby County and Republic of Ireland medical teams.

The striker has since thanked medics for their swift action via social media. Posting on X, he said:

“Gutted the way it ended. Fans and boys immense all evening! Appreciate everyone’s messages. And thank you to the medical staff who acted so quickly to help me. On the mend.”
