INTERVIEW: Sanderson Sets Sights on Coventry

Dion Sanderson spoke of the togetherness and camaraderie in the Derby County dressing room, propelling the Rams into the end-of-season run-in, beginning against Coventry City on Good Friday.

After a 1-0 win over former club Birmingham City in Derby’s last outing before the international break, Sanderson is hoping the Rams can continue their momentum with a tough test against the league leaders.

Defender Sanderson also caught up with RamsTV ahead of the Good Friday football to talk about making the most of a few days’ rest and recuperation to broaden his horizons during the international break, and look ahead to the clash with Coventry.

On What He Has Been Doing Away from Moor Farm

I went to Sweden. I went to Stockholm. It was my second time there, and I really enjoyed it. I went with two of my friends, so we had a good time. It was just a case of getting away. Taking my mind off football because I think about it 24/7. Now, I’m back and ready to work.

On Staying in Touch with the Rest of the Group

Personally, I try to keep in touch with what is going on. I watched Pat play for the USA, and he took his goal well - typical Pat! We’ve got a top group here - I think we've got to make the most of it this season, and it's important, these last few games. I think we've built a great bond with each other.

We talk about having a big family, and I think we connect well on and off the pitch, if I'm being honest. Even if it's away from football, lads still call each other, we'll go out for food and stuff like that. So, it's a good group.

On His Reflections on the Birmingham Game

I thought we played really well. Especially in the first half, the best display of football that we've probably played all season. I think that it came at the right time for us - they’re a top club, and I think we went head-to-head with them, and we deserved the three points.

On the Busy Easter Fixture Programme and the Run-In

We’ve got Coventry and Stoke. Every time we have come up against a top team, we’ve tried to rise to the occasion. Birmingham was a prime example - can we go again? Can we do it against the top of the table, and they're in good form? I think since we last played them, we've come on leaps and bounds. So, we're really excited, and we're going to be ready for it.
