Biography

Andi Weimann made a return to Derby County ahead of the 2025/26 season, after previously being on the books with the Rams from 2015 until 2018.

The attacker started his career with hometown club Rapid Wien in Austria, before being scouted by Premier League Aston Villa in 2007 to join the Birmingham-based club’s academy setup.

After rising through the academy ranks, Weimann made his competitive debut for Villa in the Premier League on 14th August 2010, in a win over West Ham United.

Two short loan stints with Championship side Watford followed, first in January 2011, where he featured 19 times and netted four goals, and then at the start of the following season, where he made three outings for the Hornets before returning to his parent club.

He went on to make 129 total appearances for Villa, scoring 24 goals over four seasons - 17 of those coming in the Premier League.

Weimann’s second club in English football was Derby, who snapped up the versatile attacker in June 2015. He made 88 appearances in black and white in his first stint at the club, with 15 goal involvements as he was utilised in a variety of positions, including out wide.

A single season on loan with Wolverhampton Wanderers came in his penultimate season on the books of the Rams before Bristol City acquired the attacker’s services in July 2018.

Weimann spent six seasons with the South West club and bagged 51 goals and 29 assists in 216 appearances for the Robins – his most prolific campaign in his career came in 2021/22 when he converted 22 goals and provided 10 assists in the Championship.

A short loan move to West Bromwich Albion in the second half of the 2023/24 season fashioned an exit from the Robins, as joined Blackburn Rovers upon the expiry of his contract with his parent club.

It was at Rovers where he was first managed by Head Coach John Eustace, whom he had also played alongside during his early loan spells with Watford 11 years prior. He proved an effective asset for the Lancashire club, too, scoring seven goals in 30 appearances, ahead of joining Derby for a second time.

Weimann also has international experience, with 26 caps for the Austrian National team after experience rising through the age groups for his country.
