Sheila Rollinson In Profile

DCLFC owes its existence and current status to the commitment and drive of Sheila Rollinson.

She is at the heart of the club as Club Secretary and has developed DCLFC from a small ladies club to sustaining seven junior and two senior squads.

Her involvement in ladies football started when she was club treasurer for a club in Coventry. In 1978, she moved to Derby and started her own club the ‘Beacon Wanderers’. She then became secretary of the Notts League from 1980-1990 and also held a role within the England administration team.

She was also secretary for the Midland Combination League for a number of seasons.

As a coach, she achieved her FA preliminary coaching award in 1992 and attended prep courses as the only female in her group which included Phil Brown and Dave Bennett. Inspired by her ability and love of coaching at grassroots level, Rollinson gained the UEFA B coaching award.

Although she is no longer coaching within the club, her interest in the personal development of all our players from the Under 10s to the first team is reflected in her role as welfare officer.

Rollinson continues to play alongside her commitments to ladies and girls football. From the 1970s and throughout the 1990s she always played in the women’s teams that she ran. Since stepping down from playing at that competitive level she has continued to be heavily involved with DCLFC, and also as a teacher encouraging pupils to participate in and enjoy football. She is the contact for the club’s Primary School tournaments for schools in Derby, Derbyshire and surrounding area.

Today she is steering the club towards Women’s Super League status and manages all the administration for the teams and coaches. She is the physiotherapist for the under 16 side, provides refreshments during the senior home matches and produces match programmes.

Rollinson’s long and dedicated history with the club has firmly entrenched DCLFC as a valued asset in the local community.
