Just under 10,000 supporters headed to the iPro Stadium on Thursday evening for Shaun Barker’s testimonial game.
A current Derby County XI and a Shaun Barker XI went head-to-head – with the latter running out 10-9 winners in an enthralling evening’s entertainment.
A selection of Rams legends turned out for Barker’s side, who were managed by Roy McFarland, while Derby Head Coach Darren Wassall named a strong side for the match.
Barker played 73 minutes for his own side before playing the final 17 minutes for Derby.
Derby’s goals came courtesy of a Nick Blackman hat-trick, a brace from Darren Bent and further strikes from Craig Bryson, Jacob Butterfield, Andreas Weimann and, fittingly, Barker.
Meanwhile for Barker’s side, Steve Howard netted a hat-trick while Paul Peschisolido netted a brace – in addition to Paul Dickov, Paul Green, Adam Bolder, Barker and young supporter Ben Dennis, picked from the crowd to take a penalty, finding the net.
Barker received a standing ovation at the end of the game from the crowd and a guard of honour from the players as he made his way off the pitch.
