Gary Rowett believes Derby County still have ‘quite a bit more business’ to get through in the summer transfer window.

The 2017/18 Sky Bet Championship season gets underway in less than a month’s time, with the transfer window slamming shut a few weeks later.

Rowett has brought in defenders Curtis Davies and Andre Wisdom from Hull City and Liverpool respectively so far this summer, while Abdoul Camara, Will Hughes, Tom Ince and Cyrus Christie have all moved on to pastures new.

Rowett made it clear some time ago that he wanted to reduce the size of Derby’s squad and have a tighter-knit group to work with for the forthcoming campaign.

He expects more activity in the comings weeks, both inward and outward bound, but reiterated patience will be key when it comes to adding to his squad.

The 43-year-old feels his transfer targets are players that could prove to be key signings, should the deals come to fruition.

He told RamsTV: “I am really happy with where we are at right now.

“I still think we have quite a bit more business to do in the market; that will be some outs as well as some ins.

“We always wanted to reduce the squad and give some of the other players the opportunity to see whether we do need to strengthen in some areas.

“Certainly, we will make some key signings still. What we have to do with that is remain patient.

“When people see the likes of Will Hughes and Tom Ince go out, they automatically assume that we are going to instantly replace.

“We have some excellent targets and a lot of the Premier League clubs are away on tour, so we might have to wait for one or two of those teams to get back before we can move.”
