Brentford boss Dean Smith believes that his players can build on the “boost” of their first win of the season ahead of Derby County’s visit to Griffin Park.

The Bees secured their maiden victory with a 3-0 win away at Bolton Wanderers on Saturday, a result that was their first three points on the road since March.

Whilst optimistic, Smith expects a difficult game against Gary Rowett's side under the lights in west London.

He told Brentford's official website: "It is a home game and we want to get a win for our home fans. It will be a tough game as they are one of the favourites to get out of this league.

"It will certainly give us a boost having gone so long without a win. Hopefully we can take that into the next game."

Smith believes that his side's points tally so far doesn't reflect the quality of their performances, and he hopes that the tide is turning after the positive signs at the weekend.

He added: "It is another big week against two teams who are destined to be in the top six. We feel that we have competed with every team we’ve played so far and should have more points than we have. We have to go and prove that in these games."

Yoann Barbet scored a stunning free-kick to open the scoring at the Macron Stadium, and he recalled fond memories of Brentford's victory the last time the two sides met in April.

He told the media: "I have good memories of the 4-0 win over Derby, I hope we can produce the same performance, but the three points is most important. We don't care if it's 1-0 or 4-0."

The centre-back echoed his manager's thoughts on their recent form and explained how the players had no worries over results in opening weeks of the season.

Barbet added: "It's difficult because you're frustrated but you're not panicking. It's been a long eight games, but we’ve shown what we've done since the start.

“We weren't panicking because we were playing well and we've not played a team who were better than us in the league. We showed again we were the best team and got the three points.”
