Carlos Carvalhal has highlighted consistency as Sheffield Wednesday’s key issue ahead of their Sky Bet Championship clash with Derby County on Saturday.

The Owls travel to Pride Park Stadium off the back of a disappointing defeat at bottom club Bolton Wanderers last weekend, with Carvalhal’s side aiming to recreate the form that took them to the play-offs in each of the last two seasons.

The Portuguese boss saw his side beat high-flying Leeds United 3-0 before the October international break, and he admits that the recent contrast in performances is something that he must resolve.

Speaking to Sheffield Wednesday’s official website, he said: “When you play like how we did against Leeds, a high-level performance, and after few days with the same players, we did exactly the opposite.

“We know when we are playing consistently at our high level then we are very difficult to beat, the problem is we are not as consistent as we would like.”

Carvalhal’s belief in his squad has not wavered and he expects his side to climb the table in the coming weeks.

He added: “We have the value, we have the soul, we have the talent, we are here and ready to fight. I believe we will improve in the future and move away from this position.

“We must work hard to the future to do more what we did against Leeds and less what we did at Bolton.”
