Tom Lawrence has assured Derby County fans that they will soon see his best football after the Rams extended their unbeaten run to five games with a 2-0 win against Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday.

Goals from Matej Vydra and Bradley Johnson secured the points, whilst Lawrence went agonisingly close to opening his Derby account on his seventh start since joining from Leicester City in August.

His chipped effort rolled against the post just minutes after Vydra’s opener, and the Wales international is sure that it won’t be long before he finds the net.

Speaking to RamsTV after the game, he said: “I feel like I’ve settled in well, I think my best football is yet to come but I feel like my performances have been good and hopefully we can keep on winning.

“Hopefully the goals come sooner rather than later, it’s obviously frustrating at the moment but I’ll keep working hard and I’m sure that if I keep getting in the right positions then they will come eventually.”

Gary Rowett’s side had to work hard for the points, despite playing against 10 men for 86 minutes after Wednesday captain Glenn Loovens was sent off for fouling Vydra.

Lawrence admitted that the Rams found it hard with the numerical advantage, but he was pleased the spirit that the team showed to get the vital second goal.

He said: “We started really well with the sending off and the penalty, but we found it really tough, they sat back and in the majority of games where there is a sending off, the 10 men always seem to make it more difficult.

“We weren’t quite sharp enough with our passing, but we dug deep and the second goal was massive for us.”

Derby now face two difficult away trips, heading to Norwich City and Leeds United in the space of four days, but Lawrence is confident that the Rams can take their impressive home form to the road.

He added: “There are no easy games in this league. Norwich are a good team, they’re always well organised and playing Leeds in front of their own fans will be a tough, tough game.

“It’s only a matter of time, if we perform like we did at Cardiff then the wins away from home will come sooner rather than later.”
