‘Scott’s Quality Has Been There For All To See’

The statistics don’t lie.

In Scott Carson’s last 52 starts for Derby County, the goalkeeper has kept 29 clean sheets. In 42 of those matches, the 32-year-old has impressively only conceded one goal or less.

That’s impressive to say the least.

In his last six matches, Carson has recorded five shutouts – but what those numbers don’t tell you is the type of saves he has had to make along the way and how important they have been.

His stop to deny Middlesbrough’s Britt Assombalonga, moments before Matej Vydra scored the first of his treble on Teesside, was outstanding, as was his save to deny Barnsley’s Ike Ugbo at a crucial time in the Rams’ win at Oakwell a couple of weeks ago.

Curtis Davies plays in front of the ex-England international and he says his quality has been there for all to see.

“The other week against Barnsley, there was a moment where it could have very easily been 2-1 and then a couple of minutes later we have gone and made it 3-0,” the centre back said.

“He did the same thing at Middlesbrough only a couple of weeks before that and they have been vital saves.

“That’s the difference he is bringing to the table. The quality of Scott has been there for everyone to see.

“He was the Player of the Year here last year, which is a massive thing for a ‘keeper, but hopefully this time around a striker gets it and we end up getting promoted.

“We would rather be known for our attacking prowess rather than our ability to shut the backdoor, but when you have got a ‘keeper there that can pull off that kind of save, even when he has had a relatively quiet game, shows how good and experienced a ‘keeper he is.”
