Derby County goalkeeper Scott Carson has today put pen-to-paper on a new contract.

The 32-year-old has extended his stay at Pride Park Stadium until the end of the 2019/20 campaign, with the option of a further year.

Carson has been in fine form between the posts this season and was last week named as the Sky Bet Championship Player of the Month for December.

Last season’s unanimous Player of the Season winner has made 28 appearances in all competitions over the course of the current campaign, keeping an impressive 13 clean sheets in the process and boasting the second-best defensive record in the division.

Carson has established himself as Derby’s first-choice goalkeeper and been a model of consistency since joining from Wigan Athletic in the summer of 2015.

He has made 117 appearances since his arrival and signed a new contract just over 12 months ago, but has been rewarded for his excellent displays this season with fresh terms.

Manager Gary Rowett commented: “It’s really good news for us to get Scott committed for the long-term as we are not just trying to build for this season, but for the future and seasons ahead.

“Scott has been in tremendous form this season and I believe he is in a good place mentally as well.

“He has been very consistent for us and also been a huge player in what we’ve been doing so far.”

After putting pen-to-paper, Carson said: “I’m delighted to commit my future to Derby County and it was a straightforward decision.

“As soon as I was asked the question about signing a new contract my mind was made up.

“I’ve said it a million times since I joined that I’m really happy here, I’m enjoying my football and I really want that to continue.”
